"Failed to load saved game" error for all files

I've been playing this game for ~75 hrs now without issue, but suddenly, none of my saves will load ("failed to load saved game" error).

Of note, I am playing on a steam deck and utilize steam cloud for saving.

Things I have tried/done:
Ensuring the steam cloud is "up to date"
Turning off steam cloud
Deleting old saves to reduce memory use
Reinstalling the game
Verifying file integrity
Running the game in compatibility mode for the most recent stable proton release as well as proton experimental

Any other ideas, or am I SOL? I am not programming literate, but am willing to get into Linux nuts and bolts with guidance if need be.

I am nearly 60 hours in and also playing o a steam deck. I am having the same problem!  I've tried your suggestions and all my previous save files fail to load!

I can't say that I have any experience with Steamdeck, but if this is happening to multiple people, you should probably send Styg an email or message him on the discord.

I'm not much of an expert on the exact mechanics of the game, but there are guys on the discord who could probably shed some light on what's going wrong.

Also started happening to me. Would be interested to see if anything fixes it but so far I have tried the following and they haven't worked:

Uninstalling/Reinstalling
New save file
Re-allowing on Windows defender/antivirus
Verifying files
Running as admin
etc etc

Per Zeem on discord, I installed GloriousEggroll's fork of Proton, in particular version 7.29 and that fixed my issue.

Did josorno1's solution help you?

Btw, are you playing the game exclusively on the Deck or are you moving between it and another system, and if so, what is the other system?

Yes, glorious eggroll did the trick for me! I started playing on my PC but have basically only played on my steam deck after the first few hours. I had no issues running PC saves on my deck, but Deck saves would not run on my PC.  having recovered my saves, that's an issue i can 100% live with

Installed ProtonGE, still doesn't work - my issue is on desktop, however, not the steam deck so I didn't know if it was going to work in the first place. Any ideas?

Having the same problem, ProtonGE doesn't do anything for corrupted saves on windows

Having the same problem too, Glorious Egg Proton fix didn't help!
