Suggestions / Quick start
« on: July 23, 2019, 04:00:38 pm »
After waiting for the expansion and getting bored with the starting base game it struck me that for a game with so many build options it would be cool with a way to start after the prologue (The game up until the faceless attack) at a predetermined level.

Now I am very glad that the expansion is finally out, and bought it at release, but it's a bit anticlimactic to me, wanting to roll a fresh build with new feats from the very start, to have to go through hours or what I've already done 30+ times already before I can access the new content. The set in stone sequence of the early game is simply getting to be a drag after a while, and this was true for me before Expedition as well. Many a time I'd reinstalled Underrail to try a new build, only to get halfway through the Prologue and simply get too bored to continue.

If abuse is a concern it could be restricted to people who have finished the game, people who have finished the game on the same difficulty, or restricted to the lower difficulties altogether. I'm guessing this is very low priority, if something that sounds reasonable at all, but hey, we got a map eventually, so I might as well run the suggestion by you.

I would if I hadn't written a review already, two years ago.  :(
So frustrating to see a really great game get thumbed down by people who either don't like the genre or are just bad.

Good solution right here. What bothers me as of right now is: Why should the Free Drones dislike/refuse to work with you if you persuaded them to leave the train? Persuasion implies influencing and changing their point of view to where it will now align with yours on this particular issue.

You persuaded a few grunts sent to execute an operation. You didn't persuade the cell leaders of anything.

What are said grunts going to tell the cell leaders, though?

We should have a dedicated line during the persuation option to tell the Free Drone that we understand their fight against the protectorate but can't condone the fact that they doom Rail Crossing bye stealing the supplies, then let Rail Crossing have the supplies (ie : not lie to the mayor), and then have both choice offer to us.

This is what had me frustrated, moreso than how lying to Herve could change things around(although this makes it even more nonsensical).

+1 To OP's point here. I remember this particular part of the questline bothered me as well.

The siphoner man is so psionically endowed that the mere thought of him will lead forum members on a wild goose chase. I'd say he's one of Underrail's many characters with ulterior motives, his being the facilitation of leading people to secrets.

Whether he exists or not, the chance of stumbling upon other cool hidden stuff whilst looking for him makes it all worthwhile I suppose!

Man, this expansion looks great! And sounds great as well! From what the video shows whoever makes the music outdid themselves with this.
Can't wait for the release.

Wow, thanks man! I think it's because I didn't enter the room with the Tchortists that I didn't get the branch at first.

Who was it that said Eidein's body was never found again? I agree though, it does strongly imply that they have him in their possession. Why "death" though? Is there something else I have forgotten about?

I agree 100% about the writing. The writing, story and character development in this game is just about the best I have ever encountered. To me this is the main reason that this game has such staying power. There's always something to discover and discuss. It's strange how the best games just come falling out of the sky sometimes. This is easily in my top five list of all games I have ever played.

Wow, so much cool lore in this thread that I haven't discovered yet!

Yeah, I definitely see what you mean, but given the info presented by the Faceless Commander (that is: that the Faceless collected his body), I think it's safe to say that they are not the same person. Although, maybe it was the physical appearance of the Mouth of Tchort which inspired Eidein's costume?

Oh, and sorry for derailing this thread so much. :P

Could you tell me what the particular conversation branch for this is? I tried to replay a Deep Caverns save after my last post here to talk to the commander, but I couldn't seem to get any information about Eidein from him. Underrail shows as "Underrail [Experimental]" in steam, with the experimental beta being opted into. Is this all that is required? Maybe the save is too old, or shouldn't that matter as long as I am playing the experimental branch?

So there actually is an in-game explanation for this? I've been looking for info on this for ages, but I've never been able to find anything more than the line "Except for one. Eidein's body was never found." from the ending slides. Could you please give me a hint as to where I should look to find out what happened to Mr. Metal-face in the end?
I've always just killed him to get the keycard--I've never lockpicked the door--so I don't know if that has something to do with why I get that particular ending slide every time.

So maybe this is already explained by the guy you are referring to Epeli, but my last bossfight I noticed how incredibly uncanny a resemblance the Mouth of Tchort had to Eidein.

There is a portait on the wiki of him appearently, just take a look if you want to see what I mean.

Retrace your steps and make 100% sure you haven't done anything wrong. If not, it's probably a bug and you could report it.

I also wouldn't mind an account. I don't have any particular stuff to add at the moment, but I've had tons of encounters with the wiki earlier where I feel like I could have fleshed out an article. I've just been too lazy to ask for an account earlier. So if you read this and setting me up with an account isn't too stressful, go for it.

You've taken the close range penalty into account, right?

Not sure if this is a bug or just a really weird coincidence, but nobody seems to sell goggle frames in the experimental branch.
