Announcements / Re: Underrail: Heavy Duty DLC
« on: September 30, 2023, 02:42:25 pm »
What have you done, Styg? What have you done?

I am supposed to be done with Underrail until Infusion comes out. And so were you.

Well, I guess we can't help ourselves. See you in November.

And I'm in. Fix worked fine, thanks again.

Bugs / Abandoned box is blocking questline door, help:
« on: February 17, 2022, 11:38:46 pm »
See attached image. I really want to get to that door, but the abandoned box is blocking me.

I tried waiting around for a reset cycle, hoping the box would disappear, but no luck.

Possibly this is part of a puzzle, but I don't think so, I think it's just a random event with unlucky placement.

General / Re: Need advice on sneaking past a certain lab
« on: October 04, 2020, 12:01:18 am »
It's a tough sneak, but I'm pretty sure I've done it with less than 300 stealth.

I've used adrenaline (just before entering stealth and then the zone transition) which I believe gives you a bit of a movement boost even in stealth. Likewise Psycho-temporal contraction.

The Interloper feat helps too, you could have waited and gotten that (if you didn't have it already).

I usually fight those guys, but sneaking by initially puts you in a hell of a better position for the fight.

Sure, if you are insane enough to do DC before doing Dude's quest, why not? The devs do like to put in these quirky little things that only a tiny handful of players will ever see.

Bugs / Re: Music cipher text in bold
« on: August 25, 2020, 06:50:12 pm »
I'm glad you mentioned this.

I got a similar thing: the screen did NOT show the asterisks, but copying with Ctrl-C did show them.

Perhaps this is some kind of markdown bug where the asterisks are denoting boldness. Anyway, I got something similar and I was just dragging my feet on writing it up.

Really need to see those asterisks on the screen! I think it would have been impossible for me to solve the puzzle using the text without asterisks.

Let's Plays / Re: Newbie
« on: August 22, 2020, 03:08:20 pm »
You're not giving us a lot to go on, but briefly:

Play on Normal your first time.

Pick one kind of offense: crossbow, guns, swords, knives, fists, psi, etc. Build your character around that, with perhaps some Throwing for grenades (an occasional grenade is good for everybody). Do not try a hybrid on your first play through.

Make sure the primary attribute for your offense is a 9 or a 10. Usually this is clear, in some cases you might have to choose between STR and DEX.

Keep your CON at 5 or higher. Don't go low CON on your first play through.

Stealth is very powerful in Underrail, because it (often not always) lets you start combat on your terms. Fun, too. If you don't use stealth, consider a high CON character and/or heavy armor.

Do not spread your skill points too thin. You can spread them out a little, but not too much. You can successfully support 10-12 skills, but not more than that. Trying to support 15-20 skills will ruin your character: it will just fail at everything it tries to do. Your primary offense skill should be maxed every level.

Your feats are the most important part of your build. They're what really define your character. Pick feats that support your core character concept. Most character concepts will have one or two feats that are just crucial for making the build work. (Some have several.) Don't pick feats willy nilly. You can click a "show all" checkbox on the feats tab to see other feats that you can't get yet, and plan your future character development. You can also use https://underrail.info/build/ to plan your build. Sometimes important feats have attribute requirements that you'll need to plan in advance. On your first playthrough this can be tricky (see my next remark) but if you are looking ahead a little and think "that sounds awesome" it probably is and you should plan around getting it.

You may want to restart after you've played for a while. There's a lot to learn in Underrail, and you'll be able to make a more effective character after you've learned the ropes a little. But you can probably take your starting character through to the end if you're persistent.

FYI, the Let's Plays forum is really for people sharing the play through of their game as they go along. This would have been fine in the General forum or, once you had some ideas, in Builds. I will say, if you want to play unspoiled, you may want stay out of Builds. People there will be happy to spec out a character for you to the very last detail, but I think it's more fun to figure it out for yourself.

It's a great game. Have fun.

Suggestions / Re: Assorted genius ideas

Here's a genius idea:

Add hotkeys for item-wheel options. If I want my Huxkey to go to Hack, I press 1 (example), if I want to lockpick with it, I press 2 etc.

You can basically do this now. You can drag your Huxkey to two different slots on your hotkey bar, and set one to lockpick and the other to hack.

Yah, dealing with the horde from hell is definitely part of the Emporion experience. The lag Nikla is talking about happens to me too, but it's short lived and usually I can start running again before the mob finds me.

I can see both sides here. It's thoughtful to consider people running on slow machines, but limiting noise transmission will surely make Emporion easier, and it's supposed to be hard.

No, I never did. I saw some spoily stuff that suggests there is more content here than I saw. Not sure if I'm missing a trigger or that part shows up later, but I only interacted with the areas you're talking about here.

I did this some time ago. Once you get Hoddurform you melt minds real good. My build was TQ and not Psychosis, which I remember regretting a little, but it still worked pretty well.

Once I did get Hoddurform it didn't take long for the shine to wear off, though. Melt melt melt. Yup, it works. Getting bored wasn't specific to this build: I often lose interest in characters once they get their prime gimmick nailed down.

General / Re: Josh Culler Appreciation Post

I'm happy to join in appreciation of Josh Culler. I agree his work is top tier and deserves special recognition.

I don't understand how he's writing for little guys like Styg and dcfedor (NeoScavenger dev) instead of raking in the big moneys from the big boys. I feel conflicted about this: I hate to see such talent seemingly (mostly) unrecognized, but I also want his music in the games I actually play.

I had not heard of Kelly Bailey, I'll check him out.

Bugs / Re: 1.1.2.0 Unknown Item in GMS

There's another thread on this, but it looks like GOG does have the wrong version and is delivering 1.1.2.0 instead of the 1.1.2.1 it claims to be. Since apparently 1.1.2.1 has issues anyway...
