General / Deep Caverns Mutagens (spoilers)
« on: April 27, 2016, 02:03:18 pm »
(Note: Most spoilers in black-font - highlight the text to reveal - hopefully I didn't overdo it <g>)

Alright, I'm having a devil of a time with the mutagen "puzzle".

There are two mutagens I've not found - ( Echo-4 & Solis-1 ).

So, I can't help but wonder if those two mutagens have sequences that would be useful.

According to the wiki, those are each located as follows:
Quote
This mutagen reagent can be found inside one of the buildings in Hollow Earth. A wall must be destroyed to get inside.

.
Well, I've triple-checked basically the entire Deep Caverns, and as far as I know, I have destroyed every wall necessary to access every blocked off area (although not literally every single wall - which is not strictly necessary to get to everyplace - because multiple walls may gain access to a common area), and I still haven't found those two reagents.

I've even scanned for unmarked but destroyable walls; and well, I missed them if they exist
.
.

My hacking and lockpicking are sufficient that I've opened the 130 & 135 containers; and they're not in them.

I have neutral access to both Cytosine Outpost & Talos Outpost; and in them I've checked those red-hand-marked containers that I can without getting caught - so, some but not all of them. There are rooms in each place that I haven't gotten into because I can't without being seen (which brings hostilities).

My questions are:

  • Is the wiki correct? Or, like the mutagen compound sequence itself, are their locations randomized for each game?
  • If it is correct, does anyone know specifically where they are?
  • If it isn't correct, is it possible they're in those locations or containers I haven't accessed for reasons noted above?

General / Dude and Deep Caverns (SPOILERS)
« on: April 13, 2016, 08:22:32 am »
The Dude in Rail Crossing sends you to get him a stash of Mushroom Brew...

So I'm in Deep Caverns, reading logs in the Caerus Residential Apartments.

There's an apartment of a Dr. John Dyson. He's involved in joint research with Dr. Bianca Helting in the "fungal forest project". She's an expert of mycology.

She refers to Dyson as "Dude" in one of her logs. There's other references to 'Dude' in other logs.

So you have a Dr Dyson aka 'Dude' doing research in a fungal forest, and the Dude in Rail Crossing wants mushroom brew.

Same person? Is Dr Dyson the Dude? If so, that makes him a lot older than he looked in Rail Crossing.
And also more than 'just a strange dude in Rail Crossing'..

Hmmm.., interesting..

Bugs / Arke console [spoilers]
« on: April 11, 2016, 02:30:49 am »
The Arke Power Station - Power management Console - top of the display has "Current power expenditure (%)".

Looks like something that would update as I turn on and off various locations (seems like a companion to the "Current power available for allocation" line that appears above the menu).

"Current power expenditure (%)" never updates (while "Current power available for allocation"  does update).

Not sure that's a bug - but just in case...

The attached example - should it show 53% instead of nothing?

Bugs / Hard lockup doing things a peculiar way... v1.0.1.4 (spoilers)
« on: April 04, 2016, 05:57:36 am »
If tl;dr - start at the bottom.. :)

I've found I can cause Underrail to do a hard lockup (have to end the task) if I do things a peculiar way (that is probably very 'not normal') but isn't 'cheating' either.

My PC has approx. 300 stealth with his Cloak active.

In the University, I can sneak into the Deep Caverns elevator room (having avoided starting Strange Tremors), hack the elevator button, and press it. The Faceless immediately assault. I can 'ride out' the assault by keeping in stealth and staying out of the way.

After it is over, I can sneak back out of the elevator room (doing so via the stairs and not via the passenger elevator going up - I haven't tried that way yet). From there I can sneak back into the vent and get to the West Wing.

In the West Wing, I drop out thru the hole in the floor.

From there I can go visit the other two elevators - the one at the Hanging Rat pub, and the other one near SGS. (Basically i was curious if either one now had power and had become operational)

I can visit the one at the Hanging Rat with no problems (including pressing the power button).

BUT - If I merely enter the zone of the Deep Cavern elevator near SGS - Underrail does a hard lockup. I can't do anything besides step into that zone - then boom - lockup. Have to end task.

Probably an unorthodox thing to do - but since it locks up I figured I should at least report it..

Bugs / Can climb down ladder but not up?
« on: March 23, 2016, 08:44:16 am »
Not sure if bug or not..

In the Upper Underrail Lunatic Base (SE of Core City), there is a ladder you can climb down, but not up.

The top of the ladder(where you can climb down) has a freight hoist. Maybe that's why you can't climb up. But, since you can climb down even though it's there, I thought it might be worth a mention..

Bugs / Wit Nosek BIO Dialog bug? (SPOILERS)
« on: March 02, 2016, 12:51:06 am »
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not; but it's not the typical handling so I thought I'd post about it just in case..

(SPOILERS)

If I talk to Wit Nosek and have 23/28 Bio, I get a [Biology] dialog option.

if I first level up once and put all 40 points into Biology (resulting in Bio 63/79), the [Biology] option disappears.

Typically, the more skill your PC has, the more likely a related dialog option is applicable.

In this case it's the reverse - more Bio results in the dialog not appearing at all.

Not sure that's a bug, but just in case something is reversed where it shouldn't be, I report it..

v1.0.1.4

Bugs / Holloway quest confusion... (spoilers)
« on: February 21, 2016, 08:25:45 pm »
I am confused on handling the Holloway quest.

Col Cathcart tells me, "If you find yourself in a difficult situation, then by all means you're allowed to defend yourself. Otherwise... just report back to Consul. We'll do the rest then."

So I peacefully tell Holloway, "I think we're done here, Holloway. You'll get the Protectorate answer shortly."

Then I go "report back to Consul". I tell Consul, "About those renegade soldiers..."

Consul, "Ah, yes, Corporal. What of them?"

My PC, "1. Nothing. I'll come back later."

No other dialog choices except that #1.

It seems clear that I don't have to attack them. Indeed, I should not attack - I should instead ".. report back to Consul. We'll do the rest then.."

Since Holloway isn't attacking me, I don't need to defend myself.

Feels like Consul should have some other dialog, such as "Thank you Corporal, we'll take it from here.." or something.

I have zero in Persuasion and Intimidation - so those options don't work with Holloway.

Am I missing something? Seems like the only way to advance this quest is to attack them; while the dialog implies I should not and that I should only report back (unless they attack me; which they aren't).

I'm running 1.0.1.4 from GOG.  Attached is a composite image of the dialogs.
