Unarmed
The Unarmed combat style is directly supported by some feats and psionic abilities, making it a viable option along with other, more powerful weapons.
However, feats that work while unarmed also generally work with Combat Gloves. Unarmed has the advantage of bypassing energy shields entirely, unlike fist weapons which bypass only 80%.
Differences to weapons
Since version 1.1.0.5, unarmed has been notably different from all weapons, even the very similar fist weapons.
The base damage of unarmed slowly improves with character level, before counting in the bonus from increasing Melee skill. The base damage is also increased by 5% for every point in strength above 5 and this bonus is multiplicative with the bonus from effective melee skill, unlike the additive Strength bonus on melee weapons.
