10 agi with no evasion is a bit sad in my opinion, but your choice :)

Builds / Re: Cut-throat build after an anniversary update.
« on: Today at 08:27:39 am »
Hey, interesting topic, cut-throat builds are my favorites though i didn't have much time to play this update yet,

My experience with the feat is that it's very good for the "base game" that has a lot human fight/bosses (also worth noting cut throat works against mutants) and starts to fall off in expedition and DC when you face more robots and creatures, and the tougher humans have Thick Skull (like skaerders or faceless commander). Thick skull prevents the stun effect, so it's much less useful here but you still get the bleeding effect,

The change to 15 ap is very nice, and makes the feat overall more useful throughout the game, even in The Compound.

For a cut-throat centric build you indeed need to spec into it to the reduce CD, and you need ways to proc it, which are :

- stealth and only when unnoticed (unlike snipe which works even if the enemy sees you through stealth) ;
- incapacitation, which can come from : cheap shots (but it has been severely nerfed), flashbangs (8 turn cd), mental breakdown (8 turn cd) ; tranq bolt (12 turn cd (!) ) or pneumatic hammer (every fourth hit). Freezing effect does not work for cut throat (i say this because otherwise it kinda works like an incapacitation) ;
- butcher's hook, which is good for being unconditionnal, but has 5% reduced precision and less damage.

One of the strongest option is to rely heavily on flashbangs, causing an area of effect incap for 2 turns.

So IMO a very powerful Cut-throat centric build would use Grenadier, Spec ops (with 2 specialisation points) and LTI to reduce the cooldowns of both Cut-throat and Flashbangs to 2 turns, allowing you to incap, stun and bleed to death a lot of people before they can react.

For the exact build i have no idea what's best, you could do a 10 int cut-throat build this patch and it would be good since speccing into cheap shots and crit power will skyrocket your DPS.

But there are a lot of possible variations like using versatility and SMGs or any other ranged weapon, or psi-versions. 10 Will Knife cut-throat with Thought controls skills is cool for example. I also really enjoyed playing a Knife cut-throat/electrokinesis character, though it has no obvious synergy it works fine and the imprint in particular is always useful for more control.

Builds / Re: Help Crafting a Comprehensive Sword Guide

I have designed a sword + acid pistol build, but I've never tried it.  I tried designing a sword + epistol build a few times over the years but it always felt suboptimal to just sword + knife.

I played both, it's always nice to have a good range option, and laster pistols have great range, precision and damage ; while chem pistols have great CC and AOE damage

There's also some feats that could be good that I haven't played with much:
    • Continuum Ripple
    • Decapitate - The exposed head things kinda always kept me from taking this.
    • Hit and Run - Doesn't proc from psi kills. Could be really good with blitz.
    • Fancy Footwork - If this works with chainsword it could be pretty amazing. I'd worry about killing enemies too quickly and not getting enough movement points.
    [/li]
    [/list]

I don't think i'd enjoy playing a sword build without fancy footwork, it's a great feat for any melee that does a lot of attacks

About hit n run the main reason i would'nt chose it for sword build is that i'd much rather take fancy footwork, which makes hit n run obsolete.

You say it doesn't work with psi abilities but why does it matter for a sword build ?

I like doing a dex versatility pistol build with Cleaver/Wasteland Hawk. Cleaver isn't redundant since it costs less ap to use than the hawk, is silent, and has a special attack that can break ribs and let you deal extra damage to a target. You already want melee skill for gun fu, and you want to be in melee range for the Wasteland Hawk for the daze/stun effect.

    nice

another possible synergy could be to use kneecap shot for stacking taste for blood (edit : the feat says it's a "bleeding wound" but i never tried if it works)

I've played multiples melee range hybrid dex builds in dominating, with and without versatility :

    SMG/FIST or SMG/KNIFE
    SWORD/CHEM PISTOL
    KNIFE/Laser PISTOLS

Laser pistol is the option that gives you the more range so it's actually decent. But there's always some kind of synergy even with SMG for w2c bullet or chem pistols for acid and crowd control for example, while melee destroys unarmored enemies, also gives some control and mobility  with fancy footwork,  and conserves ammo.

That said many combinations could work, i just like dex builds since they give you a lot of attacks per turn.

i might try shotgun/brawler or spear/crossbow hunter later on. i saw this guy on youtube doing spear/shotgun at the moment : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgUB4VWqflg&ab_channel=72dimi

I don't think they're the best builds but i've had fun playing like this role playing some kind of spec-ops and that beat the game just fine.

Bugs / Re: "Failed to load saved game" error for all files
    « on: September 25, 2024, 08:06:48 pm »
    I had same problem today,

The message was ""Failed to load the saved game. Error: Unable to resolve data element type: Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Input.Keys""

However i was able to load my oldest save, and after doing that the recent saves seem to work again.

    Hope it's permanent.

    Wow that was quick,

I can confirm it's fixed, all saves load fine.

    Many thanks.

Spear throw is a melee attack in all ways

Do you mean that developers confirmed that Spear Throw is intended to act as a melee attack? From common sense, I don't see why throwing spears would be fundamentally different from throwing knives, and I don't remember the latter triggering Cheap Shots.

Because spears are weapon and throwing knives are utilities

Spear throw damage is also based on melee and not throwing

Bugs / Steamdeck - saves fail to load
    « on: November 08, 2023, 08:38:52 am »
    Hi,

I started to play on steamdeck a month ago, before release of heavy duty.

It worked well (occasionnal fail to save but a restart of steamdeck always fixed it).

I managed to install and finish Heavy Duty with same character.

After that i loaded an old save (wanted to try dlc with that character), played a bit, saved the game.

Now i have an error : "failed to load save game, Error : Unable to resolve data element type: Microsoft, Xna,Framework, Input, Keys" when trying to load that new save AND the old ones (which used to work fine).

Saves won't load both on PC and steamdeck (i had synchronization activated).

Here is a link with the two last saves i used : https://we.tl/t-K2QKa7H6oU

    Cheers,

    wow thx, looks terrifying,

Do they also all have thick skull or will i be able to use my favorite cut throat build ?
The grunts don’t have thick skull, but the support unit does.

    Thx !

I was afraid when you compared them to strongmen but my cut throat pk build works quite well so far, glad i have more ennemies to slice :)

Those guys are really fun to fight, really great dlc

Yes thanks a lot for the detailed explanation,

Indeed the last patch says "Reduced the spread angle for assault rifle/SMG bursts", i didn't realise it was almost as thin as a plasma beam now, that's very interesting (and i guess the new heavy weapons will have an edge on this).

Pretty fun to see throwing knives now competing with ARs haha

Hi, thanks for the write up, the build looks indeed quite good.

However i'm having a hard time with that affirmation "Concentrated fire is a superb feat for single target damage, which makes AR’s king for bursting down the final boss, but in most encounters enemies will die in 3-4 shots, holding back your damage potential. It’s against hordes of enemies where throwing knives really shine over AR builds, since split spare and pinning can quickly eliminate threats from the crowd. "

Since AR bursts are extremely good at killing multiple ennemies in a cone with stray bullets (unless this has been patched at some point i'm not aware of ?), i don't really see why you'd consider concentrated fire a feat good for single target only.

Well there's definitely a lot of bio threats in expedition so i'd go with that if you want to keep the same gear as often as possible
