Talking to the commander and allowing your mind to be read will potentially allow you to receive several batches of W2C ammo or grenades, as well as healing items. Whether the Faceless consider you an ally depends on acts previously committed in the game. You need +1 net positive acts for ally status while anything less . In the latter case it's recommended not to talk to the commander at all, as turning Faceless hostile in DC spawns an endless amount of stealth-equipped Faceless Gaunts.
