Bernard is the keeper of Gloria, Foundry's huge old electric arc furnace that has fallen to a state of disrepair.

Super Steel smelting
Once Gloria has been fixed and the beast is gone, Bernard offers use Gloria to smelt Stygian Coins into Super Steel Plates. A single set of super steel plates needs 3000 stygian coins and 40 minutes, The quality of plates you get is random, ranging from 70 to 160.[1] Bernard can work on one, two or three sets of super steel plates at once. Save and load will not change the quality of plates.
