The Sørmirbæren Skærder are mutated warriors of the Sørmirbæren tribe.

Description

Resembling human/snake hybrids, the Skærder, or "Transcended", are warriors who partook in rituals designed to make them more like serpents as well as bolstering their bodies.

Fighting Tactics

Tougher and stronger than their Krigsfar brothers and possessing more powerful weapons, the Skærder battle alongside their unmutated kin as shock troopers.

They fight mostly in the same way that Krigsfar melee fighters do, but they hit much harder, have more health, are immune to poison, and have higher Mechanical resistance and threshold thanks to their bone armor and reptilian scales. Due to this, Frag Grenades, Frag Mines and JHP ammunition aren't as effective against them. They have quite a few feats as well; Thick Skull and Last Stand increase their toughness, while Taste for Blood and Vile Weaponry combined with the many Bleeding Wounds Skærder weapons can inflict ensure that within a few turns they can significantly hurt even the most heavily armored players. Skærder also have more prominent mutations along their left arms that allow them to perform special attacks such as devastating acid blasts and strikes that inflict Contamination.

The Skærder are among some of the most dangerous melee fighters encountered in Underrail. They are difficult to outlast in a fight, due to their impressive damage output, and the focus should be on killing them as quickly as possible. Most of them don't have any ranged weapons, so they can be hindered with caltrops and traps, but their poison immunity ensures that they can't be controlled with poison effects. Skærder arm mutations vary in danger, but those with an acid launcher or a mass of tentacles in place of left arm should be prioritized, as their special attacks are extremely dangerous regardless of the player's character build.

Variants

Depending on their arm mutations, Skærders gain different abilites:

  • Acid Launcher Arm - can perform special ranged attack that causes Acidic Entanglement, applies Rusting and deals heavy Acid damage. The Impact Speed of this attack is low.
  • Insect Claw Arm - can perform special melee attack that deals Mechanical damage and inflicts a bleeding wound dealing 200% of the initial damage over 3 turns. It also applies Infected Wound.
  • Mass of tentacles Arm - can perform special melee attack dealing Mechanical and Bio damage and causing Contamination.
  • Shield Arm - can block up to 35 mechanical damage from melee attacks and can perform special melee attack similar to Shield Bash, that deals heavy Mechanical damage and dazes the target.
  • Spiked Mace Arm - can perform special melee attack that deals heavy Mechanical damage and stuns the target.
