Lora Baker is a citizen of South Gate Station. Together with her husband Terry they used to work as traveling merchants for the station. The two of them disappeared shortly after the earthquake.
Background
The Baker couple was unanimously regarded as good people by anyone who knew them. Shortly before the earthquake they were sent on a trading trip to Core City. When their business there was concluded they notified SGS, but before they could have returned home the earthquake made travel impossible, and severed all channels of long-distance communication. From that point SGS lost all forms of contact with them.
The Baker couple's final trip and events after the earthquake |
Although preparing trading lists is usually Vera's task, she was away at the time and in her absence Tanner gave the Bakers their instructions. Aside from usual items, they were also to meet with a man called James Steiner in the residential area of Core City, and receive a package from him. Once they have acquired everything they could, they've contacted Tanner and left to find a train that would take them home. This was when the earthquake shook South Underrail and made traveling temporarily impossible. The Bakers waited a long time in Core City for the Underrail Express trains to restart, and during this time they have attracted the attention of a local gang, the Acid Hunters. Although the caved in tunnel leading to SGS was going to take a longer time to get cleared, the Bakers decided that in the meantime it would be best to take a train to Rail Crossing and continue waiting there. The Acid Hunters followed, ambushed, and dragged them to the caves northeast of Rail Crossing, where they've been robbed and shot, and left for dead. Fortunately for Lora, before taking their leave the Acid Hunters opened the package they took from the couple, which turned out to contain a mysterious Faceless artifact with a built in tracking device. The signal was picked up by the Faceless, who tracked it back to the cave and found the dying Lora there. Your chance to finally meet Lora will come once you reach Deep Caverns. She can be found in the outpost occupied by the Faceless. Even with the horrific injuries she had suffered, her condition is stable as long as she is connected to the life-support. The Faceless also supplied her with an artificial larynx, allowing her to speak despite the complete destruction of her vocal chords. Her final fate depends on your actions. |
